ANTIGUA-WEATHER-Government And Private Sector Offices Close As Storm Approaches

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Oct. 13, 2014, CNS – The Government of Antigua and Barbuda has announced that all government and private schools, offices and businesses are closed for today, Monday 13th October, as the islands begin to experience the effects of the passage of Tropical Storm Gonzalo.

Four hurricane shelters have been recommended for opening.  The teams have been placed on standby for the Piggotts, Grays Green, Jennings and Bolans shelters. Persons in low lying/ flood prone areas are advised to move to higher ground once heavy rain commences.

At present, persons are advised not to venture outdoors.  Persons with emergencies are asked to utilize the 911 services.  If persons feel that they must venture outdoors, you are advised to exercise caution and to take every measure to protect both life and property.

Persons are advised that the V.C Bird International Airport is closed for all services until further notice. A further advisory will be issued shortly upon receipt of an update from the Meteorological Services.
