Canadian Caught With Marijuana At Barbados Airport

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Dec 05 2016 – Members of the drug squad have arrested and formally charged 21-year-old Canadian national Andriy Kogut with a number of drug related offences which were committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Sunday, December 4.

Kogut arrived on the island by air from Canada. Having cleared immigration, he retrieved his luggage and proceeded to Customs. He was selected, and interviewed by customs officers who conducted an examination of his luggage and personal effects.

While searching his suitcase, 23 sealed packages containing cannabis were discovered concealed in a false bottom in the suitcase.

The police were informed and Kogut was subsequently arrested and formally charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Kogut appeared before the District ‘B’ Magistrate Court today where he pleaded guilty to the offences. He was fined $15,000.00 forthwith or two years in prison for the offence of importation, and was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the other offences.  The fine was paid and he was handed over to immigration officers.
