PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Feb 18 2017 – Former Trinidad and Tobago and Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has been “denied entry into the United States for having an Iranian stamp in his passport”, British newspapers reported this week.
This comes weeks after US President Donald Trump’s so-called “Muslim travel ban” was blocked by courts. The list of seven countries included Iran.
Yorke provided analysis for television coverage of United’s 3-0 win over Saint-Etienne in the Europa League on Thursday night.
On Thursday, Yorke was allegedly not allowed to transit through Miami, Florida, on his way to Trinidad.
However, information from a local football association source indicated Yorke was affected by a regular visa issue and not the travel ban imposed by Trump.
everal British newspapers, including the Sun and Mirror, reported that former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys made the allegation that the Red Devils’ ambassador cannot enter the US under border controls.
Keys wrote: “Well done @realDonaldTrump. Man U ambassador Dwight Yorke denied transit access to Miami cause he has Iranian stamp in passport. #crazy”.
Yorke could not be reached for comment.
