Eight People Quarantined in Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Jan 17, 2015, CNS – The Jamaica government says eight travelers had been quarantined on arrival here after visiting countries with the deadly Ebola virus.

Health Minister Dr. Fenton Ferguson said the travelers, who were not identified, were quarantined in order to safeguard the population and minimise possible risk of introduction of Ebola into Jamaica.

The Ministry of Health said that the travelers were quarantined in keeping with its protocols and travel restrictions implemented by the Government.

The authorities said that all but one of those quarantined had been released after they showed no signs of the virus that has killed more than 7,000 people in West Africa, including Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said as of January 14, a total of  21, 296 cases of  Ebola and 8, 492 deaths have been reported.
