POINTE À PITRE, Guadeloupe, Aug 12 2015 – Air Antilles Express has been granted an amended Foreign Air Carriers Permit (FACP) and route exemption by the US Department of Transportation (DOT).
Based in the French overseas region of Guadeloupe, the carrier may now offer scheduled and charter flights ferrying passengers, mail, and freight between the European Union and the United States and beyond. It is, however, restricted to using aircraft capable of carrying no more than 60 passengers and having a maximum payload capacity of no more than 18,000 pounds (8,100kg).
Under the terms of its previous FACP, Air Antilles Express was only permitted to conduct foreign scheduled and charter flights of persons, property, and mail between Guadeloupe, Martinique, and St. Martin, on the one hand, and San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin, Puerto Rico, on the other.
As it now stands, the carrier intends to offer scheduled services via various intermediate and beyond points in the Caribbean and is also considering operating scheduled services via the Dutch exclave of St. Maarten by codesharing with Winair.
A subsidiary of Air Guyane Express, Air Antilles Express currently operates a fleet of two DHC-6-300s, two Cessna (single turboprop) 208B Grand Caravans, and four ATR42s (three -500s and one -600) on scheduled flights to Antigua & Barbuda, the Dominican Republic, Dominica, Martinique, Saint Barthelemy, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and Saint Martin.
