KINGSTON, Jamaica, Jul 29 2016 – The Government of Jamaica has announced plans to provide US$4-million in support to Venezuela.

Information Minister, Ruel Reid, made the disclosure at a post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday.

He said of the sum, US$3 million will be provided through the Petro-Caribe Development Fund and US$1 million through Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology.

“This decision is taken primarily to give support in the form of medicine, food and fertilizer,” Reid said.

Venezuela is suffering its worst economic crisis in history and this has forced the Government to declare a state of emergency.

Other countries within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), have also pledged support for Venezuela as economic hardships continue to grip the country.
