Jamaican Woman Arrested At Barbados Airport, Slapped With Drug Charges

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Dec 03 2016 – Members of the Drug Squad have arrested and charged a Jamaican national for a number of drug related offences which were committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Tuesday November 29.

Shelly Ann-Marie McClean, 35, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply; trafficking; and importation.

McClean arrived on the island by air on Tuesday from Jamaica.

Having cleared immigration, she was stopped and interviewed. She was subsequently referred to Customs by police to have a search of her luggage and person conducted after suspicions were aroused. This search later revealed four taped packages containing cannabis concealed in her brassiere, under her breasts. She was subsequently arrested and later charged for the offences.

McClean appeared before the District ‘B’ Magistrate Court on the Tuesday December 1 before Acting Magistrate Elwood Watts where she pleaded guilty to the offences.

She was fined $7500.00 forthwith or six months in prison for the offence of importation, and was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for the other offences.
