NASSAU, Bahamas, Dec. 02, CNS – A plane crash in Bahamian waters early Tuesday off the coast of New Providence claimed the life of a 77 year old man.

The man, an American, was killed when a Piper Navajo aircraft crashed in waters off Clifton Pier in western New Providence around 8:30 a.m.

Authorities at the scene confirmed that 11 people were onboard the aircraft that was a charter flight operated by Ferguson Air for Southern Air.

According to police reports, the pilot notified air traffic controllers that he was experiencing difficulties before bringing the plane down on an area of water in the Clifton Pier area, just short of the Lynden Pindling International Airport.

Ten passengers including an infant all survived the crash and were taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.

The crash was the second fatal plane incident in a month in the Bahamas.
