Play Tackles Serious Issue Of Risky Online Relationships

~ Police Drama Group Stages ‘Runaway Groom’ at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Sept. 13 ~

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua (10th September, 2014) – The drama group of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda is getting ready to stage its annual dramatic production at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium this weekend.

Titled ‘Runaway Groom’, the play which is written by journalist, communications specialist and playwright Desmond Brown, tackles the serious issue of risky online relationships.

The play tells the story of a middle class couple and the challenges they faced as they prepared for their wedding.

When the play opens, Sampson Younge, (aka) Sonny and his bride-to-be Rebecca are in a bridal store to advance plans for the ceremony.

The drama focuses on Sonny, who now shares the same home with Rebecca. Both have been celibate for more than a year, since Rebecca is adhering to the teachings of her grandmother that there should be no sex before marriage.

As the wedding draws closer, Sonny became so desperate for sex that he started trawling the internet in a bid to “hook up”. He got lucky but all hell broke loose when Rebecca found out he was unfaithful, putting her spiritual and psychological mettle to the test.

In an attempt to make things right, Rebecca decides to seek counseling from the respected psychologist and family counselor, Dr. Furgus.

After much wavering and vacillating, Rebecca and Sonny decided to go ahead with the wedding in the face of warnings and advice from their respective friends that this was a very bad idea.

Brown said Runaway Groom which is child-friendly in terms of language and content promises to be exciting and is a play for the entire family to see.
