BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jul 25 2016 – Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris says his coalition administration remains “extremely strong” and that a weekend retreat allowed for members to openly discuss issues confronting the administration in the twin island Federation.

Harris said that the retreat conducted by Grenada Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, the Barbados Opposition Leader Mia Mottley and former St. Vincent and the Grenadines prime minister, Sir James Mitchell, allowed for his cabinet colleagues to “look at the bigger situation (and) how we could advance the quality of life for people of St. Kitts-Nevis.

“All retreats by nature should be candid and frank and this one was extremely well advanced in terms of the candour and the frankness with which members brought to the table,” he said, adding “the Team Unity cabinet remains extremely strong, the synergies are high, the team spirit is very great”.

Harris lead his Team Unity, a coalition of opposition political parties here, into government on February 16, last year, ending three consecutive terms in office of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) administration where he once served as deputy prime minister.

Grenada’s Prime Minister described the retreat as a “necessity in the construct of governance, particularly the parliamentary system we are adhering to.

“As Caribbean people we should always be willing and ready to help as we continue to traverse the path of governance of our individual countries,” he said, noting that his ruling administration had earlier this year benefitted from a retreat conducted by a Trinidad and Tobago national.

He said a “Barbadian son of the soil” will be conducting a retreat for the ruling New National Party in Grenada on Friday.
