Prison Officer Found Hanging In Cell

NASSAU, Bahamas, Mar 17 2017 – Coroner Jeanine Weech-Gomez, has launched an investigation into the death of a male officer from the Bahamas Department of Corrections, who died while in lawful custody for a domestic incident on Thursday night.

Police officers reportedly discovered the man hanging in a cell at the Elizabeth Estates Police Station at around 11:00 pm (local time).

A police statement stated that lifesaving procedures were immediately done by healthcare officials from the nearby clinic and EMS personnel responded to the station where lifesaving procedures continued while the man was transported to the hospital.

The man, who has not been identified, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The police said an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death and that investigations are continuing.
