KINGSTON, Jamaica, May 25 2016 – Rescue teams were expected to resume their search Wednesday for two students of the Paul Bogle High School in St. Thomas after they were reportedly swept  away by flood waters on Tuesday night.

The unidentified students were walking along the Cheswick main road when they were swept away and efforts by residents to rescue them were affected by a power outage in the community.

Residents said that a nearby river had overflowed its banks causing the water to flood the area as a result of the heavy rains on Tuesday.

A team from the National Works Agency (NWA) is expected to assess the impact of flooding in sections of St. Thomas.

On Tuesday, sittings at the Morant Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court were cancelled because the building was flooded. The court is expected to re-open later on Wednesday.
