Vincentian athlete Linda McDowald copped her 2nd title in the women’s leg of the annual CARICOM 10K Race in Montego Bay, Jamaica on Saturday with a winning time of 39 mins 50 secs. This was slightly slower than the 37:57 run for her first title in 2016 in Guyana.
Second place in Saturday’s race went to Grenadian Kenisha Pascal who crossed the finish line in 40:21 while 3rd place went to Carlie Pipe of Barbados in 46:12.
Jamaica took the top two places in the men’s leg of the event. Dwayne Graham won in a time of 34:15 and Oshane Archibald took second place in 34:19.
Vincentian Junior Ashton copped the third spot in 35:54 while his compatriot and former event winner Pamenos Ballantyne had to settle for 4th in 37:40.
The CARICOM 10K and a 5K Run/Walk were associate events of the 39th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, 4-6 July 2018.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Cabinet Ministers, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Kamina Johnson-Smith and Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, along with CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque participated in the event. President of Suriname Desi Bouterse, the CARICOM Head of Government with lead responsibility for Sports, attended and officiated at the presentation ceremony.
