Another Jamaican Makes The Voice

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 30, 2014 – On the heels of Jamaican-born Tessanne Chin’s win of Season Six of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ music reality show, another Jamaican has made the cut for this season.

Kingston-born Anita Antoinette, a graduate of the Berkley School of Music who moved to the U.S. at age 8, secured a four chair turn from all the judges following her rendition of reggae legend Bob Marley’s ‘Turn Your Lights Down Low.’

It was Antoinette’s second time auditioning for the show after failing to get a chair turn in season three.

After a ‘fight’ among the judges, the Boston resident ended up choosing new season judge, Gwen Stefanie, as her coach.

“I’m so excited,” Stefanie gushed, while noting her love for Jamaica was so great she named her son Kingston after the country’s capital.

For her part, reigning Voice champ Chin, offered congrats to her fellow Jamaican, Tweeting: “@AnitAntoinette just got a chance to see your #BlindAudition !!! You represented beautifully !!! #OneLove #JamaicansOnTheVoice #Proud.”

“The Voice” returned last week with internationally acclaimed artists Stefani and Pharrell Williams joining returning mega-stars Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as celebrity music coaches, while Carson Daly continues to serve as host.

The show’s  format features five stages of competition: the first begins with the Blind Auditions, then the Battle Rounds, the Knockouts, the Live Playoffs and, finally, the Live Performance Shows. The show continues its audition stage tonight on NBC at 8 p.m. EST.
