Opposition Leader Baldwin Spencer on Thursday said goodbye to the House of Representatives and active politics.
Spencer said goodbye after Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s announcement of the dissolution of Parliament today.
Spencer had already announced his retirement from active politics following his party’s defeat in the 2014 polls and said before that he would not be a candidate in any future election.
“I am completely humbled by the experience here,” Spencer said in his final address in the House.
Spencer added that he believes that he is leaving politics after he would have made “significant contributions” to the nation.
“I have tried my best, both in and out of government to make a difference and I think the time has come to exit,” the former United Progressive Party leader added.
Spencer was the nation’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and has served the constituency of St John’s Rural West since 1989.
