ANTIGUA – Former newsman took ill on BA flight, hospitalised in England

Former news broadcaster Dave George had emergency surgery on his lung in England after falling ill on a British Airways flight to London last weekend.

George suffered a bout of excessive vomiting onboard the flight.  Fluids from the vomiting caused liquids to leak into areas of the lungs which sent George into a state of aspiration pneumonia.

Aspiration pneumonia is a lung infection that develops after you aspirate (inhale) food, liquid, or vomit into your lungs. You can also aspirate food or liquid from your stomach that backs up into your oesophagus.

George remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He is still in a weakened condition and is unable to speak without great discomfort at this time.

“At this point, I would say that the prognosis looks good, and yes, doing everything to recover.”

“And, [the doctors] found no evidence of gullet puncture [as reported in social media outlets earlier today].”
