Argentina strengthens relations with St. Lucia and OECS

With the intention of strengthening Argentina’s bilateral and regional relations with the
Caribbean, Ambassador Gustavo Martinez Pandiani travelled to Castries last week to
present his Letters of Credence to the Governor General of St. Lucia, Sir Neville Cenac,
and to the Director General of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS),
Didacus Jules.

During the visit, the Argentine Ambassador held an intense agenda of working meetings
with Prime Minister of St. Lucia Allen Chastanet, as well as with his ministers of Foreign
Affairs, Sarah Flood-Beaubrun; Agriculture, Ezechiel Junior Joseph; and Health, Mary
Isaac.

The envoy presented a series of cooperation projects aimed at benefiting the
island´s beekeeping and fishing communities to the St. Lucian authorities. He also
introduced the Triangular Cooperation Project Argentina/PAHO/CARICOM on
Strengthening Antimicrobial Resistance Detection and Surveillance in the Eastern
Caribbean.

He also signed a bilateral agreement with the goal of promoting the practice and
management of sports in both countries with Minister of Youth Development and Sports,
Edmund Estephane.

According to Minister Estephane “The agreement will be instrumental to encourage the exchange of athletes, coaches and teams, and their participation in training sessions for our youth”.

The treaty also stipulates the reciprocal visits of experts and specialists in various areas of Science Applied to Sports. Pandiani added “As the new Ambassador of Argentina to St. Lucia, I´m very enthusiastic on the mutual opportunities created by this initiative for our communities. While we offer Argentina´s expertise in football, we hope to get the best of St. Lucia´s experience in cricket”.

Finally, after presenting his official accreditation letters as the new Argentine
Ambassador to the OECS, he visited the regional body´s headquarters to coordinate
new initiatives and better capitalize the Argentine assistance among its member states.

Pandiani used the opportunity to analyze the diverse political and economic challenges
of the hemisphere with top OECS officials, Dr. Jules and Ambassador Severin.
