I have been so very sorry to hear of the significant damage which Hurricane Irma has caused across Barbuda in the last 24 hours. The loss of so many people’s homes is a heartbreaking blow to the community of Barbuda and to Antigua and Barbuda as a whole.
I remember fondly my recent visit to the island and in particular to Holy Trinity Primary and Sir McChesney George High school. The warmth of the welcome I received demonstrated to me the tremendous strength of unity which exists amongst the community. I have no doubt that this bond will be of enormous comfort and support in the weeks and months ahead.
You are all in my thoughts at this most difficult of times.
