CODRINGTON, Barbuda, Sept. 11, 2014, CNS – The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission ABEC Thursday announced September 29, as the date for the Barbuda Council by-election.
The seat became vacant after former council chairman Arthur Nibbs won the Barbuda seat in the national elections on June 12 and was later appointed to the cabinet as minister with responsibility for Barbuda affairs.
Under the law Nibbs cannot be both a Member of Parliament and Chairman of the council.
It was not immediately clear who would vie to replace Nibbs on the council.
