COVID-19 pandemic forces cancellation of Barbados Gospelfest 2020

The following statement was issued by Adrian Agard, Executive Producer, on the postponement of Barbados Gospel Fest 2020.

Consistent with Stage 1 of the plan as set out by the Government of Barbados in response to COVID-19 Barbados Gospelfest 2020, which was scheduled for May 17 to 24, has been postponed. We will continue to monitor the situation and announce a new date as soon as it is practical.

Central to the production of the Barbados Gospelfest these past 27 years has been the desire to point the nation, the region and the world to the sure foundation that is found in a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. In view of the challenge facing Barbados and the world as we confront the threat of COVID-19, it would be remiss of me not to call on our nation to focus on the opportunity this crisis presents to each and every one of us.

Barbados is one of the smallest countries in the world but we along with those nations with overwhelming military, economic and technological power have literally been brought to our knees by a virus. This challenge, however, affords us a chance to assess where we, saint and sinner alike, have placed our confidence.

I could quote a few verses of scripture but need look no further than the second verse of the Barbados National Anthem, which boldly proclaims “The Lord has been the people’s guide for past three hundred years, with Him still on the people’s side we have no doubts or fears…” Some of the responses being displayed over the past many days suggest that there is a level of anxiety and fear among us that is not consistent with what we have proclaimed in our National Anthem. Let us, therefore, take the time to reflect on in what and/or in whom we have been placing our trust.

God has not changed! He is the same yesterday, today and forever. In these times, let’s all examine our relationship with Him and from Him draw the courage to face COVID-19 and any other threat that may appear. May God Bless Barbados and continue to keep us all safe.
