Cuban doctors arrived in Martinique Friday on a historic mission to assist in the battle against COVID-19, local reports say.
The medical team arrived on a special Air Antilles Express flight and were greeted by a delegation led by the president of the Executive Council, Alfred Marie-Jeanne.
The 15 visitors will be quarantined before taking up their duties and will also receive an intensive course in French.
They are expected to be in Martinique for three months.
A decree in March paved the way for the Cubans to assist Martinique in its COVID-19 battle.
The decree authorised the intervention of Cuban doctors in Fench overseas departments and territories including Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin, Saint-Barthélemy and Saint- Pierre-et-Miquelon, to strengthen local teams.
Over 100 Cuban medical personnel arrived in Saint Lucia in March to help this country in its battle against COVID-19.
