DOMINICA – Death toll from Hurricane Maria could be as high as 72

The death toll in Dominica from the passage of the catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane Maria could be as high as 72.

Daniel Carbon, the island’s Chief of Police, provided an update during a press conference this morning.

“We have had confirmed so far 27 deaths; 27 persons are confirmed missing; and we also have additional unconfirmed reports of 18 persons missing,” Carbon said.

“On behalf of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force I would like to express my deepest condolence to the persons and families who lost their loved ones during the passage of Hurricane Maria.”
