Dominica jolted by earthquake

Dominica was jolted by an earthquake just after 9 p.m. (local time) tonight.

The tremor, with a magnitude of 3.7, was recorded at 9: 17 p.m. by the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the St. Augustine campus of the University of the west indies (UWI).

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage caused by the quake, but the SRC said that its location was Latitude: 15.37 north, Longitude: 61.32 west and at a depth of five kilometers (km).

The SRC said that the tremor was felt 11 km north east of Roseau, 89 km NNW of Fort-de-France, Martinique and 100 km SSE of of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

The SRC recently warned Caribbean countries to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to respond appropriately to any large magnitude earthquake which may potentially cause significant damage and loss of life.
