DOMINICA – Maria reportedly claimed 15 lives in one community

There are unconfirmed reports tonight from Point Michel that 15 people from the community lost their lives during the passage Hurricane Maria which devastated Dominica on Monday day night.

A well-known resident of the community described scenes of “utter devastation” with 90 percent of roofs blown off. The resident said there is no vehicular access to the community as all roads are impassable.

There are also reports that one female from the community of Stock Farm and three residents of Grandbay also perished.

With the eight deaths which were previously confirmed, the death toll in Dominica has now risen to 27.

  2. There are some gaps here. Aren’t these unconfirmed reports? Should we not wait until there’s at least more than one sources verifying this information or ensure it comes from official channels? So far, this is one person’s account, it could easily change depending on the circumstances. Also, if it’s unconfirmed, then the death toll being quoted is also speculative… I appreciate the effort to provide information, but, most people can get unverified, unconfirmed information on social media. But they come to credible sources like this to get verified information.

  3. I’m from the Caribbean so I know the higher the death number the more money you get from other countries or assistance. So I know in my country there were reports of higher numbers reporting to the news than what it really was. But if this is true. I pray that this island gets all the help it can get.
