Douglas: Government Failing Tourism Sector, Promises Massive Show of Force on Labour Day

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, April 29 2015 – The Opposition St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party is promising a massive show of strength on Labour Day, May 4.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas told party supporters at a public meeting that the Labour Party was mobilising ahead of the Labour Day observance.

“We will not stand in a state of immobility.  We shall mobilise ourselves, and we shall march like we have never marked before on Labour Day,”

Dr. Douglas pounced on the current problems being experienced by St Kitts and Nevis in the cruise tourism industry.

“We were moving towards a number one position that we wanted to sustain, under continued tourism development here in St. Kitts and Nevis,” Dr. Douglas said.

“So many different international travelers’ magazines have declared us as one of the most sort-after destinations in the whole world.  Ships were proud and pleased to come to St. Kitts and Nevis, because when you looked at the reviews from the passengers they said that this was a destination that was one of the greatest in the making, and they wanted to dock here.  Today, after four weeks, Carnival Cruise Line Liberty cruise ship has not come to our shores.”

The former Prime Minister suggested that there was a likelihood of frustrated taxi operators joining the Labour Party in protest action next week Monday – Labour Day.

“The taxi men have a right to declare that this government is incompetent when it comes to tourism, and they better get their act together otherwise we will begin to see demonstrations along with us where on Monday, Labour Day, with the taxi operators joining us.” (WINN FM)
