DUBAI – Antigua and Barbuda and UAE to collaborate on Green Barbuda Project

Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who is on a visit to the United Arab Emirates, on Monday held a bilateral discussion with Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment for the United Arab Emirates

During the meeting, Minister Al Zeyoudi thanked Prime Minister Browne for his participation in the World Government Summit, and offered his concern to the Government and People of Antigua and Barbuda regarding the devastation caused by hurricane Irma.

Prime Minister Browne thanked Minister Al Zeyoudi for his kind words and emphasized the strength and cooperation between both countries. The Prime Minister also thanked the UAE government for the 10 million dollars pledged to the region after the destruction of the hurricanes and in particularly the amount pledged to Barbuda.

Prime Minister Browne also thanked the UAE for the approval of the 3.1 million dollars pledge last year for the green Barbuda project. He noted the ongoing challenges regarding a green Barbuda and the set back the hurricane caused in advancing the project. Minister Al Zeyoudi, indicated his country’s willingness to assist in this regard.

On Tuesday, PM Browne will hold bilateral meetings with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and the ruler of Dubai. Prime Minister Browne will also hold a bilateral meeting with Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation.
