Former Grenada top cop dies in house blaze

A former assistant commissioner of police, died when fire razed his home in the early house of Tuesday.

While the police have not released the name of the victim in a statement, relatives confirmed that Maurice Darius, who retired from the Royal Grenada Police Force in 2006, died in the blaze.

Darius served as the Director of the Public Safety and Security Department of St George’s University.

The police said that they had received a call about the fire and on arrival found that “one of the occupants was found unresponsive in a room in the upper floor of the two-storey family home.”

The statement said that he was transported to the General Hospital St. George’s where he was pronounced dead.

The police said no other residents of the house were harmed and that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
