Grenada Tourism Officials Enlighten Students On Industry Careers

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada March 21 2015 – Officials of the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation have been giving an overview of the tourism sector, destination information, and career guidance to primary and secondary level students from schools in the south of mainland Grenada.

“Tourism is very important to our tri-island state. It contributes millions of dollars to our local economy and supports 5,000 different careers,” said Chrislyn Lashington, Corporate Communications Officer for the GTA as she apprised students of the impact of tourism on Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.

The authority hosted an information booth at the Human Resource Development Expo 2015 on Thursday.

Particular focus was given to the unpopular and emerging careers in tourism, while also revealing the interdependencies with other sectors, like agriculture and entertainment. Students found that many careers in tourism provided opportunities for constant career advancement, multi-national experiences, and the involvement of innovative technologies and skillsets.

“I want to travel the world to promote Grenada as a destination,” said one female student from the Beacon Learning Centre, after learning that the GTA has sales offices in overseas markets.

The Grenada Tourism Authority offers career guidance to persons willing to pursue a future profession in the tourism industry.
