GUADELOUPE – The French lends assistance to Dominica on the passage of Hurricane Maria

The French civil security helicopter “Dragon 972” landed on the premises of the State House yesterday afternoon Tuesday, September 19, to assist the Dominican authorities in obtaining a first-hand overview of the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria on Monday.

It was the first occasion for the Prime Minister to give direct a testimony on the situation, especially since the country has been isolated and cut out from the rest of the world.

The French personnel had discussions with the Prime Minister Skerrit on the type of intervention and aid immediately needed. The French helicopter will return to Dominica today. In the coming days, medical and other essential personnel should be on the island to assist, for as long as their services are required.

The French Embassy to the OECS Member States, in Saint Lucia, is working in close collaboration with the OECS Commission to assist Dominica in its recovery efforts.
