Gun manufacturing plant for Antigua

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, May 13, 2017 – A Chinese company is to set up a gun manufacturing plant in a special economic zone in Antigua.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed the plan on a local radio station on Saturday.

“They will be operating within the special economic zone so they are prohibited from distributing or selling handguns within the domestic market,” Browne said.

“These guns will be strictly for exportation and will be governed by regulation which we will be taking to parliament.”

Several callers to OBSERVER Radio urged the prime minister to reconsider the decision for guns to be assembled here.

They pointed to several gun-related crimes in the country in recent years.
