GUYANA – President David Granger leaves Guyana for medical reasons

President David Granger left the country early Sunday for Trinidad and Tobago for medical reasons but it is not an emergency, well-placed sources said.

Demara Waves cites sources who stressed that the 72-year old President up to last week appeared quite healthy.  He is expected to return to Guyana later this week, probably Wednesday.

He was accompanied by First Lady, Sandra Granger.

The Guyanese leader and his wife departed aboard a Caribbean Airlines flight at about 5:45 a.m.

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo has since been sworn in to perform the duties of President.

A number of the Guyanese leader’s doctors are based in Trinidad.

The Guyana government up to 11 a.m. Sunday did not issue any official statement on the departure of the President and First Lady.
