Haitian Ambassador asks for help on Wall Street

In a plea to help the Haiti crisis, that is presently engulfing the country, Haiti ambassador Gandy Thomas came to Wall Street to ask the Orthodox Jewish chamber of Commerce founder and CEO Duvi Honig, for his help to create international awareness to help stimulate the Haitian economy.

At the 44 Wall street meeting, on Thursday March 14, 2019, ambassador Gandy Thomas said “Haiti has always been a friend of Israel and that Haiti helped to form the state of Israel for the Jewish people and now, he is asking the Jewish state to be there for Haiti in its moment of crisis.”

“Now is the time that Haiti must be empowered, and we need the help of the Jewish community and the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of commerce to create awareness and be there for us”, the ambassador went on to say. And, all of this rings true, since it was Haiti’s vote that helped to make Israel a state.

Now, 70 year later, Israel returns this help to the Haitian people to help them establish infrastructure in getting jobs for the 60 per cent of Haiti’s millennial population, take control of the 48 products that Haiti represents in the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM), including the 80% of its export viz. rum, seafood, coffee, and the textile industry.

The government and people of Haiti have supported the Orthodox Chamber of Commerce since its inception and continue to count on the Chamber to deliver value, and further build on this relationship to create awareness and to co-ordinate businesses in Haiti to that of the Orthodox Chamber of Commerce.

“Haiti is not asking for a hand-out; the ambassador went on to say. Humanitarian help will not solve the problems of Haiti. Haiti is asking for philanthropy and for the establishment of structures that can create jobs.”

In response, Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce President, Duvi Honig, lamented on the BDS movement (boycott, divestments and sanctions) that continues to hurt Palestinians in the Israel economy.

“It is the business of the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce to show that 70 years later, the Jewish community can show interest to a country that stood for us, President Honig said, and we will continue to demonstrate the benefits of effective partnerships in empowering and building relations with countries like Haiti.”

President Duvi Honig also went on to discuss business alliances with the Haitian community in the diaspora and in Haiti, the Chambers work with state governors at the federal, state and local levels and with White House executives in relation to the Caribbean region.

The Orthodox Jewish Chamber of commerce is a global umbrella of businesses of all sizes, bridging the highest echelons of the business and governmental worlds together. The Chamber brings the unique dynamic of the Jewish community economy to the attention of world leaders, and helps them devise policies that would be beneficial to developing states like Haiti.

  1. Asking for help to stimulate economies in Haiti is out of senses. Because every one of them knows the corruption is the virus that’s destroyed their economies. If anyone needs to stimulate economy in Haiti, first of all, destroy, kill engulfs the corruption in all aspects.

  2. Hi there, thanks Mr. Gandy Thomas for such great job by asking the Jewish state to help our nation (Haitians) but my suggestions to you Mr. Consult if the Jews have something in their mind to do for Haiti. please! please! Let them go “sur le terrain” they can see what will be the needs to be done. And also ” tell them to go with their professionals so that they can do the necessary. DO NOT GIVE anything to the Haitians parliament neither organizations so call fmi any of them will NOT do any projects. Thanks again. from Boston Mass.

  3. The real problem of Haiti has to do with the lack of security. There is no security in Haiti and because of that people or businesses are afraid to invest in Haiti. A lot of Haitians in the US and Canada want to go back to invest in Haiti, but the lack of security stops them from doing so. Haiti is a country that is rich in terms of arts and historical sites. Tourists everywhere in the world would love to visit Haiti, so that they can learn about this great nation, but again the lack of security is one of the biggest issues why people don’t want to go to Haiti nor invest there. It’s sad and painful because Haiti doesn’t need anything from other countries. Haiti needs to have the right people in charge to govern the nation.
