JAMAICA – Bloody Sunday in St James

The police have released details on the latest attacks by gunmen in St James in which several persons were killed and others injured on Sunday.

Detectives have identified a woman who was fatally shot at Red Dirt in Flanker as 22-year-old Sherice Martin Corbet.

A man was shot and injured in that incident as well.

The Coral Gardens Police report that, about 10:45 in the morning, Corbet and the man were walking when they were pounced upon by a gunman who opened fire, hitting them both. They were taken to hospital where Corbet was pronounced dead.

The police say a man was fatally shot and another injured in Mount Salem in the morning. He has been identified as 44-year-old Raymond Dias, otherwise called Dallas, a labourer of Rose Heights in the parish.

Dias and several other men were attacked as they walked on Miriam Way about 10:15.

The injured men were taken to taken to hospital where Dias was pronounced dead.

There were also reports that two other persons were fatally shot on Sunday in Glendevon and Salt Spring.

In Glendevon, the body of 21-year-old Romaine Robinson, alias Blacks, of Rough Road was found on Dappa Lane. Residents reported hearing explosions and called the police.  Robinson was found dead.

Derrick Bucknor, a 55-year-old taxi driver, was killed about 10:30 along the Salt Spring Main Road.

The circumstances surrounding those shootings are still not known.
