KINGSTON, Jamaica, Jan 07 2016 – The government has lifted a ban on persons entering the island from countries affected by Ebola.

The Ministry of National Security in a news release on Thursday said it was guided by a recent decision by Cabinet and reports from the World Health Organisation (WHO) of a reduction of cases worldwide.

In October 2014, the Jamaican Government imposed the ban on visitors resident in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, as well as individuals who had traveled to, or transited through the three countries.

The Ministry said the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), in collaboration with the health ministry, will continue to monitor Jamaica’s ports of entry, in order to remain apprised of the situation on the ground.

The WHO has declared an end to the outbreak in the three key countries where the virus had been most prevalent.
