JAMAICA – More than $600M worth of counterfeit goods seized

More than $600 million worth of counterfeit goods seized by the police in the last two weeks is believed to be a fraction of such illegal items in Jamaica. And the police say they are going after the rest and the big players in the racket.

Assistant Superintendent at the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch, Victor Barrett, says CTOC will be conducting operations across the island. But he says the problem is so enormous, the police will have to be strategic in their approach.

On Monday CTOC seized fake goods valued at more than $100 million during operations at two establishments on Barry Street in downtown Kingston.

It followed an April 3 operation in which CTOC detectives found $500 million worth of counterfeit clothing and shoes at two establishments on Princess Street.
