Jamaica’s PNP says it regrets homophobic innuendoes

The opposition Peoples National Party in Jamaica issued a statement on Tuesday expressing regret at what has been viewed as homophobic utterances by some of its spokespersons.

The comments were made at the presentation of its candidate for East Central St. Catherine, Dr. Winston Dela Haye on Sunday, Feb. 16

“The party wishes to affirm its commitment to non-discrimination based on class, colour, creed or sexual orientation,” PNP General Secretary Julian Robinson wrote in the statement.

During Sunday’s presentation of De La Hay as the party’s standard-bearer for East Central St. Catherine, several members of the PNP launched attacks at the current Member of Parliament, the JLP’s Alando Terrelonge.

The utterances have been condemned by critics.
