A 63-year-old man was jailed for 20 years on Monday after he pleaded guilty to raping a four year old child three years ago.
Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall imposed the sentence on Gregory Ramkissoon after he confessed to the crime that took place in the Demerara region.
Prior to to the start of the trial, the accused begged for mercy. The court was told that he was presently serving a jail term for an assault charge against the same minor.
After accepting the guilty plea, the Judge handed down the 20-year prison sentence and Ramkissoon will only become eligible for parole after serving 75 per cent of the sentence.
