Man in Custody for Stabbing Baby

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, Dec. 30, 2014, CNS – Police here have arrested a man in connection with the stabbing of a four month-old baby girl.

At about 5:30 p.m, on Monday, officers attached to the Marchand Police Station received a report that a baby was being held hostage at a residence in the area. They alerted officers attached to the Major Crimes Unit, Special Services Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department and immediately responded.

On arrival at the house, the officers observed a male holding a baby and threating to kill the child.

Numerous attempts to persuade the suspect to hand over the baby proved futile. The suspect concealed himself in his house and during the process stabbed the baby multiple times. The officers were able to retrieve the baby and subdue the suspect.

The baby was transported to Victoria Hospital, where she was treated and admitted for multiple stab wounds.

The suspect, who is believed to be the baby’s father, is currently in police custody. Charges are expected to be laid against him.
