More than 400 employees made redundant from Coconut Bay Resort Saint Lucia

More than 400 employees of the Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa in Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia have been made redundant, local media reported Wednesday evening.

It’s the latest fallout from the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The employees were reportedly summoned to the resort on Wednesday to collect their severance pay and return items, including uniforms, that belong to the hotel.

Some employees indicated they were expecting more compensation.

On its official website, Coconut Bay boasts  250 air-conditioned rooms, nine restaurants, seven bars, five pools, complete fitness center, tennis and basketball courts, full-service salon and Ocean front spa.
