Pastor wins work permit appeal

HAMILTON, Bermuda, Jun 06 2017 – London-born Reverend Nicholas Tweed and the African Methodists Episcopal (AME) Church on Monday won their legal challenge against the decision by Home Affairs Minister Patricia Gordon-Pamplin not to grant him a work permit.

Chief Justice Ian Kawaley also quashed a direction that Tweed, an outspoken critic of the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) government, had to settle his affairs and leave Bermuda.

After the hearing, Tweed said he would not be making any comment.

The Attorney General’s Chambers later released a statement saying the minister would now “reconsider the application in accordance with the relevant legal principles identified in the judgment”.

Tweed, 52, has been pastor of the St Paul AME Church since 2013.
