Pilot escapes death as plane crashes in Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Aug 08 2017 – The pilot of a single engine Cessna aircraft escaped without any serious injuries after the plane crashed after taking off from the Eteringbang airstrip on Tuesday.

The accident is the second in two weeks at the same airstrip. In the first incident, the pilot, Captain Collin Martin, a former Guyana Defence Force pilot, of the Roraima Airways, died.

Manager at Wings Aviation, Carl Bowen, confirmed the latest accident, but said that the pilot, Doninique Waddell, was the only person on board the aircraft bearing the registration number 8R-GPR.

Wings Aviation, which falls under the same company that owns Fly Jamaica Airways, operates several flights daily to various parts of the interior and across Guyana.

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) is expected to launch an investigation into the latest incident.
