‘Prekeh’ – One of Jamaica’s most wanted men killed in St James

Delano ‘Prekeh’ Wilmot, the latest leader of the notorious Ratty gang, which has been terrorising the communities of Cambridge and Retrieve, in St James, was reportedly shot and killed in a confrontation with members of the security forces in Cambridge this morning.

In a gunfight, which reportedly lasted for several minutes, the much-feared gangster was killed and his M16 assault rifle seized. His right-hand man, another much-feared gangster known only as ‘Cruz’, who was said to be in his company during the shooting, managed to escape and is now being tracked by members of the security forces.

According to residents, several military helicopters are now providing aerial coverage for security force personnel on the ground, who are reportedly closing in on an area that is believed to be the gang’s main base.

Wilmot, who was wanted for several murders, increased in notoriety in recent months when he led an ambush against members of the security forces, in which two soldiers were shot and injured.

He became the leader of the gang of blood-thirsty killers when its founder and original leader, Ryan ‘Ratty’ Peterkin, was killed earlier this year.
