Riot among Guyana prisoners, several shot

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Jul 29 2017 – Several prisoners have been shot and injured after a huge riot broke out inside the jail at Lusignan on Saturday.

HGP Nightly News reports that the inmates began rioting against staff and the “use of force was necessary to quell the inmates who were advancing towards Staff”.

The names of those injured have not been released but no deaths have been reported.

Prisoners were moved to Lusignan following a recent fire which destroyed the main prison in the capital Georgetown.
