The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona has advised staff that they will not be paid as expected this Friday.
In a memo to staff, campus registrar Donavan Stanberry said the university is instead attempting to make the payments by Wednesday, May 27.
According to Stanberry, the delay is because of what he calls the UWI’s deteriorating financial position compounded by the impact of the coronavirus.
Stanberry has apologised for the inconvenience and has asked staff to be patient.
Yesterday, another university reported that its salary payments were being affected by the virus, which has caused a significant slow down in the global economy.
The Northern Caribbean University said effective June 1, staff will see a 10 per cent pay cut.
It also warned that there will be further reductions if the institution’s financial position does not improve to meet future payments.
