Senior detectives assigned to probe pastor’s killing in Jamaica – Chang

National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang says senior police investigators have been assigned to probe the killing of Pastor James Johnson inside his St Catherine church on Thursday evening.

The team includes detectives from the Major Investigation Division and the St Catherine North Police Division, Chang said in a statement.

“The invasion of murder into a church, a sacred place of worship, is utterly reprehensible,” the minister said as he condemned the killing.

He said police reports indicate that Johnson, 29, was shot inside the church, located along Spanish Town Road, and later pronounced dead at the Spanish Town hospital.

The killing occurred in the St Catherine North Police Division where a Public State of Emergency has been in effect since March.

Dr Chang said Johnson will be remembered as a bright and passionate Jamaican who was “engaged in his community, his church and nation-building.”

He urged members of the public who may have information about the killing to come forward and assist the police.
