Ten-year-old among three killed in Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Jun 23 2017 – A 10-year boy was among three people killed as gunmen went on a shooting spree in Jamaica on Thursday night.

Police are also working on the theory that the death of an 11-year-old unidentified girl in Central Kingston was a reprisal for the shooting death of alleged don, Nicholas Malcolm, in the community.

Police were reported to have been processing the scene where Malcolm and a 12-year-old boy had been shot on Thursday night, when they were alerted to another shooting nearby resulting in the death of Taysha Hughes, who attended the Holy Family Primary School.

At least seven people were shot at on Thursday night, with three fatalities.

Malcolm, a reputed “area leader”, was standing among a group of people when a car with several men aboard drove up and fired upon them, hitting Malcolm several times. He died on the spot.

So far this year, more than 600 people have been murdered in Jamaica. Last year, the island recorded 1,350 murders with the police claiming that 65 percent of these murders were linked to gangs.
