TRINIDAD – Concerns over hiring practices at Caribbean Airlines

Caribbean Airlines (CAL) is getting a slate of new executives, but the fact that some of the vacancies are being filled by former employees of the Irish-owned telecommunications company, Digicel, has raised concerns about nepotism in CAL’s hiring practices.

Sources within the company say that former Digicel executive Garvin Madera, who was recruited as CAL CEO last year, is on a hiring “spree” given that the company had initiated a hiring freeze and the jobs were advertised and filled after he assumed office.

Moreso, they are concerned about the lack of aviation experience in the company’s recent recruitments.

Madera who was CEO at Digicel Play with a Masters in electrical and computer engineering, had no aviation experience prior to his taking the post CAL’s chief executive.
