TRINIDAD – Five arrested in major drug bust at airport

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Monday said they had seized cocaine with more than TT$34 million at the Piarco International Airport late last month.

The police in a statement said that five people including two people employed with a security firm and two others, who are airport workers, had been arrested and charged with the possession of 38.8 kilogrammes of cocaine.

According to the police statement, the drugs were concealed in two suitcases that were loaded on a Caribbean Airlines flight destined for New York on Sunday April 29.

“The suitcases contained 38 and 39 packages of cocaine 42.88 and 43.92 kilogrammes of the drugs respectively,” the police statement said, adding that the drugs had a street value of TT$34.7 million.
