TRINIDAD – Strong earthquake rocks Trinidad and neighbouring countries

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 was felt in sections of Trinidad and neighbouring countries shortly before 10 p.m. (local time) on Friday.

The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the St Augustine campus, reports that the earthquake struck 98 kilometres West of Port of Spain, 11 Kilometres North West of San Fernando and 94 kilometres East of Carúpano, Venezuela.

The earthquake was recoded at latitude 10.78N, longitude 62.39W and at a depth of 78 kilometres.

People in Grenada also reported feeling the earthquake.
