Two earthquakes near Antigua

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, Jun 06 2017 – The Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the University of the West Indies (UWI), St Augustine campus, said two earthquakes have been recorded near Antigua and Barbuda over the past 24 hours.

The first quake, with a magnitude 4.0, occurred at 4:55 p.m. yesterday. It had a depth of 10 km and was located 135 km North of Saint John’s, 151 km NE of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis and 234 km N of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe

The second quake, with a magnitude 3.8, occurred at 5:30 this morning and was located at Latitude: 17.59N, Longitude 61.97W at a depth of 10 km.

The SRC said it was located at 54 km NNW of Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, 90 km NE of Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis and 156 km NNW of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.
